Global Warming Pros and Cons
Global warming pros and cons still abound thirty five years after hitting the mainstream media. It's been said that the average temperature around the globe has been going up, that is if you listen to many scientist and climate experts. This increasing tendency to warmer temperatures is referred to as global warming and has caused much discussion and debate in the past 35 years. The amount of gas in our environment is increasing; gases such as carbon dioxide and methane and they are being trapped within the our atmosphere - so say the experts.
Thoughts as to how these changes are occurring and the possible consequences of them are the concerns of many people convinced we should be trying to slow down global warming. Some people however are not convinced that man made climate changes exists or that if it does that trying to change it may be futile. They contend that people are not the cause and it is rather a natural phenomenon. Some scientists argue it is just normal changes that the planet will see over a very long time.
Global Warming Causes
Some of the supposed causes for global warming relate to the increase in the amount of carbon dioxide. This keeps in heat so the temperature should go up as the amount of this gas produced goes up. Additionally, trees and plants have been destroyed by man, making even more carbon dioxide present. This is called the greenhouse effect. Methane is given off by burning fuels like coal and oil. This has been very prevalent in the last hundred years as the Earth's population has increased and we have substantially increased our dependency on fossil fuels.
Global Warming Results
Some scientists have argued that the average temperature of the Earth has gone up by a small amount in the last century. This alteration in average temperature may seem very minor but only a small change can be sufficient to produce a large change in the fields of ice in the arctic and to hasten the melting of glaciers. If this happens, it could mean rising ocean levels and a large change to weather patterns, some of them quite violent. It could also lead to threatening the extinction of some species, as well as posing a large threat to humans via storms and floods. Ocean water is becoming acidic due to the presence of carbon dioxide which could impact life in the oceans as well.
The Argument
Since 1975 the global warming pros and cons took people by storm, especially with the attention it received in the media. Even as new evidence has been presented in the past decade showing a tendency to cooling, not warmth, more people have been paying attention to the possible ramification of climate change. A UN team now reports potential changes and its consequences regarding human activity.
Due to the frenzy over global warming many people actually stand to benefit. Scientists can get more funding, as their research is often supported by the government. Because of issues with carbon dioxide emission and proposed regulations to reduce it car companies making such vehicles stand to make a profit in the future along with their stockholders.
There are some scientists who argue that the data regarding global warming is being misinterpreted, not properly collected, or in some cases even falsely represented. Reducing pollution and saving the earth's resources can however almost always be argued in a positive light so some people call out those who oppose the idea of global warming as against the earth. Others contend the global warming is an idea that some are trying to ride to success politically and benefits those doing research or doing other things to help fight the potential destruction.
Global warming pros and cons are very hard to prove or disprove. Evidence is not concrete and nobody is fully agreeing on anything yet. It will take time before they can really determine what is going to happen to the Earth.

And so the debate continues. I use to be a global warming semi-fanatic. However, when all is said and done, more is said than done! LOL
