Solar Energy

Ever since the beginning of history, the sun has been used to illuminate homes. During the daytime, ancients could get by with regular sunlight; artificial sources were not needed. The same is also true today, as scientists have created new technologies to harness the sun’s power. Solar panels are a primary example, as they can convert sunlight into electricity. In turn, individuals and businesses receive a free, renewable energy source that does not harm themselves or the environment. They may also receive money from their electric company, since solar panels produce energy without straining the power plants. However, the real benefit is seen with the solar panel’s level of portability.

Solar Energy To Go

SOLAR PANELS CAN CREATE PORTABLE ENERGY

Larger solar panels are needed to power homes, but that does not mean you cannot get a portable source of energy.  To do so, you would get a smaller panel.  A panel that is 5 square inches can power small-scale electronics, ranging from cell phones to laptops.

Voltaic Messenger is an example of a portable solar panel.  It can hold an average-sized laptop in its plush backpack.  However, it can power other devices too.  With its USB adapter, you can charge cell phones, portable televisions and anything else generates 4 watts of energy.  So, on your next camping trip, you can play with your PDA while enjoying the beauty of nature.  And in the process, you will pay less than $280.

Voltaic also sells a special converter.  It can be attached to any backpack, and is designed for extended use.   To connect the converter to a device, you must attach it to wiring in the bag, (as there are no USB connectors).  This is a bit more inconvenient in comparison to the Messenger, but the converter is less expensive.   The cheapest versions cost $179.

Next on the list is the Generator, another solar panel offered by Voltaic. It offers more power than the converter or the Messenger. Up to 15 watts can be generated, which will power a laptop for around 5 hours. The only downside is that it will only power laptops from specific brands. It also costs $500.

Finally, you can consider getting a briefcase with solar paneling. This goes outside of the Voltaic brand, but it is still very useful. It can generate an amazing 1,150 watts of power. At this rate, you can use the generator on lights, appliances and electronics. This makes the briefcase a must-have for anyone going on long camping trips. You just have to be willing to shell out $420 or more, not a huge amount for solar panels prices - but not cheap either.
