Tub Chair The Easy Choice

The chair of kings and gentlemen. First of all if you don't already own at least one tub chair then put down this website and run, don't walk to Ikea and get yourself one. Seriously - go...As soon as you sit in one you'll feel what all the excitement is about. OK - maybe excitement isn't the best word, but they are darn comfy. And they were used by Kings, I wasn't kidding about that part.

The name tub chair really stuck due to its resemblance to the feel of being in an old washtub. Take a look at the image of the old tub and imagine slicing it in half and adding a skirt - there's you tub chair. The tub chair has exploded in popularity for the simple reason of its intersection between comfort, style and price. The comfort is unquestionable, the styling can range from a simplified Windsor chair to an inexpensive Ikea version.

The design is so simple, it's hard to peg it with a start date. We can however, state that it evolved from the Windsor chair. Thomas Sheraton, the famous antique furniture designer, wrote about rounded back chairs in his book Cabinet Dictionary. Each major furniture design movement then furthered it along. Gaining real prominence in the gentleman's clubs of the nineteenth century the club chair became a mainstay. The Modern version took another leap forward with the rise of the Art Deco movement and the famous Hoffman designed Koller chair. This is pretty close to the style we know of today. Joseph Hoffman designed his rounded back chairs in 1911 and they are truly beautiful.

Today's tub chairs can be found in just about any fabric, covering, color and styling imaginable. In a world of custom this and internet that, the choices are literally endless. One of the great things about a tub chair is that they can be placed in any room of the house. If you get bored with the look of a tub chair in your family room just change it and move your tub into a bedroom to be used as a reading chair. Tub chairs have a unique feel to them; you feel as though you are really sitting in one as opposed to on one. Personally, my home will always have at least two of these beauts.
